Muhurat Trading 2026: Date, Time and Rules for Diwali
Muhurat trading 2026 is on Sunday, 8 Nov. NSE's circular sets the pre-open at 2:05 PM and trades are settled. Full session timings and FAQs explained.

Muhurat trading 2026 will be held on Sunday, 8 November 2026, the day of Diwali Laxmi Pujan. NSE's circular dated 19 October 2026 says a special live trading session will run that afternoon, with the pre-open window starting at 2:05 PM IST. BSE's holiday list also marks 8 November as a Muhurat trading day. Here is what investors need to know about the date, the timings and the rules.
What is Muhurat trading 2026 and when is it?
Muhurat trading is a special, short trading session that Indian exchanges hold on Diwali, traditionally to mark the start of a new Samvat year. As per reports, this session opens Samvat 2083. The date is Sunday, 8 November 2026. Because it falls on a weekend, the markets will open for this one session even though Sunday is normally a holiday.
BSE's 2026 holiday list says Muhurat trading will be conducted on 8 November 2026, and shows 10 November 2026 (Diwali Balipratipada) as a trading holiday for the equity segment. Monday, 9 November is not listed as a holiday on that page.
What is the Muhurat trading 2026 time?
NSE's circular gives this schedule for the capital market segment (all times IST):
- Block deal session: 1:50 PM to 2:05 PM
- Pre-open order entry: 2:05 PM to 2:15 PM (limit and market orders until 2:10 PM, then limit orders only; the last two minutes close at a random moment)
- Pre-open order matching and trade confirmation: 2:15 PM to 2:17 PM, followed by a buffer until 2:20 PM
- Normal market opens: 2:20 PM
- Normal market close: 3:15 PM for securities in the closing auction session (CAS), and 3:30 PM for non-CAS securities
- Closing auction order entry: 3:20 PM to 3:30 PM, with matching from 3:30 PM to 3:35 PM
- Post-close session: 3:50 PM to 4:00 PM
- Special pre-open for IPO and relisted securities: 2:05 PM to 2:50 PM
- Call auction for illiquid securities: 2:25 PM to 3:10 PM
The exchange also lists a trade modification cut-off window from 2:20 PM to 4:15 PM. This circular covers the equity (capital market) segment only. Timings for other segments such as commodities may be announced separately, so check the relevant exchange notice or your broker.
Are trades in Muhurat trading 2026 settled?
Yes. NSE's circular states: "All trades executed in this Diwali Muhurat trading session shall result in settlement obligations." In simple terms, this is a normal live session where trades are real and settle like any other, not a mock or token session. Which products are available in the session (for example intraday or margin products) depends on your broker, so confirm with them before placing orders.
Why does Muhurat trading matter for investors?
For retail investors, the session is a tradition more than a trading edge. Many people place a small symbolic order for the new year. Brokers and research firms usually publish "Samvat 2083" stock lists around this time, but those are opinions, not exchange information, and Day1 does not endorse any stock pick.
