GIFT Nifty Timings: New Hours as NSEIX Goes 23.5 Hours

GIFT Nifty timings have changed. From Monday, 2 November 2026, NSE International Exchange (NSEIX) in GIFT City, Gandhinagar, keeps its market open for 23 hours and 30 minutes a day, from 3:15 AM IST to 2:45 AM IST the next day. For GIFT Nifty, the dollar-denominated Nifty 50 contract many Indians check before the stock market opens, the change means an earlier start: the morning session now opens at 5:15 AM IST instead of 6:30 AM. What are the new GIFT Nifty timings?

These are the timings for GIFT Nifty index futures, as per NSEIX circulars NSEIFSC/TRADE/2756 (1 September 2026) and NSEIFSC/TRADE/2794 (29 September 2026). All times are IST.

Session 1

• Pre-open: 5:00 AM to 5:10 AM (earlier 6:15 AM to 6:25 AM)
• Normal market: 5:15 AM to 3:40 PM (earlier 6:30 AM to 3:40 PM)
• Pre-close: 3:40 PM to 3:55 PM (unchanged)

Session 2

• Pre-open: 3:58 PM to 4:03 PM (unchanged)
• Normal market: 4:05 PM to 2:45 AM next day (unchanged)

GIFT Nifty index options follow almost the same clock: 5:15 AM to 3:55 PM, then 4:05 PM to 2:45 AM. Timings on expiry days and exchange holidays can differ, and NSEIX announces those changes by circular on nseix.com.

GIFT Nifty timings today: is it really trading 23.5 hours?

Not quite. The 23.5-hour figure is NSEIX's overall market window. The 3:15 AM start applies to products such as single stock futures and options, currency derivatives and depository receipts. GIFT Nifty itself starts with its pre-open at 5:00 AM, so its normal market adds up to a little over 21 hours a day, with a short break around 4 PM.

In its press release on 3 November, NSEIX said the first day of the new timings was completed. It said the longer window lets participants trade across Asian, European and American hours, and that its systems finish maintenance within 3 minutes between sessions and in under 15 minutes at the end of the day. The go-live was first planned for 12 October 2026 and was moved to 2 November "based on feedback from market participants", the September circular says.

"By enabling market access across all time zones, we are providing participants with greater flexibility and strengthening GIFT City's connectivity with global financial markets," said V. Balasubramaniam, MD and CEO of NSEIX.

What is GIFT Nifty?

GIFT Nifty is a US dollar-denominated derivatives contract on the Nifty 50 index, traded on NSEIX at GIFT IFSC. Its full-scale trading began on 3 July 2023, when the NSE IX-SGX GIFT Connect went fully live and Nifty derivatives trading for Singapore Exchange's international clients moved to GIFT City. Before that, global traders tracked the same index through the Singapore-listed contract popularly called SGX Nifty.

On 23 October 2026, GIFT Nifty set an all-time high single-day turnover of US$25.74 billion with a record 570,140 contracts, according to NSEIX. Its cumulative turnover since July 2023 crossed US$3.63 trillion by that date.

Because GIFT Nifty trades while NSE and BSE are shut, many traders read its early-morning level as a hint of how the Nifty 50 may open. It is still only a signal, not a forecast.
