Polygons: how an NID student's flat spoon went from Kickstarter to Shark Tank
In 2014, NID Ahmedabad student Rahul Agarwal redesigned the measuring spoon. His flat spoon Polygons raised $1,022,120 on Kickstarter and later won a deal on Shark Tank USA.

"The spoon is perfect. Don't redesign it." That is what a senior told Rahul Agarwal when he was a student at NID Ahmedabad in 2014. He took it as a challenge, and the result was Polygons.
A spoon that lies flat
Polygons is a flat spoon that turns into an exact measuring spoon when you pinch it. According to the company, one Polygons spoon replaces a conventional six-piece measuring spoon set.
100 times the Kickstarter goal
In 2016, Polygons went to Kickstarter with a goal of just $10,000. It raised $1,022,120 from 36,863 backers, more than 100 times what it had asked for.

The hard part came after
The real challenge began after the campaign. Getting the spoon made took about three years, more than 1,000 prototypes and seven manufacturers. According to ThePrint, Rahul also made 16 trips to China along the way.
The Shark Tank deal
Polygons then reached Shark Tank USA. In the episode that aired on October 14, 2026 (Season 18, Episode 4), Lori Greiner and guest Shark Mindy Kaling offered $350,000 for 8% equity plus 2% advisory, valuing Polygons at $3.5 million.

The idea was simple. Making it real took years.
