Deepinder Goyal, founder of Eternal (the company behind Zomato), has a new idea: an AI assistant that keeps your conversations private, even from the company that runs it. It is called Dark.ai.

The problem he wants to solve

People now share very personal things with AI chatbots: health worries, money questions, business ideas. Goyal argues that switching off AI training on user data is not enough. Conversations can still be stored, reviewed or accessed in other ways. Because of this, many founders, researchers and companies hold back from using AI fully.

How Dark.ai will work

Goyal shared the plan in Eternal's shareholders' letter. Dark.ai is being built with privacy at the centre:

  • End-to-end encryption for conversations
  • An encrypted memory that the user controls, so the assistant can remember context without the company being able to read it
  • Fine-tuned open-weight AI models running on Eternal's own servers

It is aimed at people and organisations that handle sensitive information, such as founders, researchers, enterprises and governments.

When is it coming?

The product is in internal testing and is targeting a global launch by the end of 2026. Pricing has not been announced, and its security design and model quality are yet to be tested by outsiders.

Why it matters

One of India's best-known founders is stepping into the global AI assistant race, and he is betting on trust rather than size. If privacy becomes the main reason people pick an AI tool, Dark.ai could find a strong niche.
